How Will I Be Assessed?
In Year 9 Assessment will be based initially on National Curriculum Levels.
For the GCSE examination you will be entered at Foundation or Higher Level, as appropriate, in each of the following skills: Listening and Reading (each skill is worth 20% of the total mark). These examinations will normally take place at the end of Year 11.
Controlled Assessments (60%): you will submit 2 Writing tasks (30%) to be marked externally and 2 Speaking tests (30%) to be marked internally and externally moderated. These will take place throughout Year 10 and 11.
Assessment will also take place on a regular basis through classwork and homework tasks, including testing your knowledge of key vocabulary.
What Can It Lead To?

Specialist job, involving use of language skills: teaching, interpreting, tourism, secretarial, European Commission.

Using your language skills working for a company with foreign trade partners (on average, those who use language skills at work earn 8% more than those who do not.)

Leisure / recreational use e.g. holidays
-
It can make it easier to learn new foreign language in the future. (Some people may be required to do this for work).
