What Will I Study?

u will have four English lessons a week. -
You will study for two separate GCSEs in English and Literature.

English allows you to develop your ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written situations.
-
In English you will write stories, newspaper reports, diaries etc. You will also read texts written by other people, as well as studying different aspects of the media.

You will be involved in different situations where you need to speak, both alone, in pairs and in groups.
-
The study of Literature will require you to read novels, poems and drama texts (plays) by different authors and write about them.
How Will I Be Assessed?

40% of your marks for English will come from coursework and 60% from your final exam.
-
The coursework is made up of 20% written and 20% oral work.
-
30% of your marks for Literature will be from coursework and the other 70% from an exam.
-
All your coursework will be completed by the end of Year 10.
-
The coursework for both subjects can be combined and it will cover the following things:

Shakespeare
-
Prose (novel or short stories)
-
Original Writing
-
Media
-
Twentieth Century Drama
-

There is one final exam for Literature and two exams for English.
What Can It Lead To?

English is useful in nearly all occupations and it is a requirement for many college courses and apprenticeships.
