Jordan puts his survival skills to test

A YOUNG Grimsby soldier has flown 1,600 miles to Greenland to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime expedition.

Former Healing School pupil Jordan Clipson, 17, from Laceby, joined the Army Foundation College, Harrogate, in January.

He is one of ten young soldiers selected from more than 1,000 students at the college, to join the expedition, which was organised by the British School's Exploring Society.

Jordan spent five weeks exploring the wilderness, glaciers and mountains of Greenland.

From base camp in the unspoilt Tasermiut Fjord area of southern Greenland, the team has faced the challenging environment of glaciers and mountains, assisting experts in studying the effect of global warming on the country's iceburgs.

Carrying only essential equipment and sleeping in three-man tents, the expedition put Jordan's Army training to the test.

Jordan's enthusiasm for the project impressed the college major in a tough process of presentaions and interviews.

Jordan's proud mum, Julie Christie, said her son had a passion for the Army and exploration from a young age, joining Army Cadets at age 12.

The trip will also enable Jordan to complete his Duke of Edinburgh Gold award.
