“Support your child’s learning in Science”
On Tuesday the 17th March Healing School hosted its first “Support your child’s learning in Science event. This was attended by 40 Year 5 and 6 pupils from Healing, Keelby, Stallingborough and Laceby Stanford Schools, together with their parents.
The event showed parents how modern Science lessons are built around “investigations” and gave an insight into the sorts of questions pupils are asked to consider during these. There was also an opportunity to look at how the internet can be used to support learning in Science, as well as some ideas for “Science-themed” family days out.
The evening was organised by Shaun Foley, Assistant Headteacher, as part of the school’s Specialist Science College provision. He expressed a debt of gratitude to Sue O’Hare, Deputy Headteacher and Science teachers Will Harrison and Simon Crosby for their help on the night. However, in the eyes of many of the pupils and parents who attended, the real “stars of the show” were the nine Year 10 pupils who led the practical activities and did a brilliant job teaching the younger pupils.
Quote from the parental feedback (has given permission to be used)
Liz Dirjal: “All very helpful and well organised. It was interesting to see your own child in a learning environment”.
