Students wow judges to get Swedish seal of approval
Pupils at Healing School have earned approval from the Swedish Chamber of Commerce.
The students wowed a panel of judges, including a member of the chamber, to be crowned the North East Lincolnshire champions in the Swedish Lincs Challenge.
Associated British Ports (ABP) of Grimsby and Immingham challenged pupils' to come up with a pitch to encourage Swedish business to the area.
Year 10 students Becky Mai, Yunsi Lucy Chi, Jay Norris, Kerenny Raine Wiseman and Faye Burden ran away with the prize after a Dragon's Den-style presentation.
Faye Burden (14) said: "We told the judges they should invest in the area for the cheap land, attractions and port access.
"It was a great opportunity to get involved in business. I couldn't believe it when we won."
The group was awarded £40 each and the school won £1,000.
The panel of judges included members of Calborn Shipping, Volvo Logistics, DFDS Torline and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce, who were so impressed, they signed up for next year.
Nick Palmer, director of ABP of Grimsby and Immingham said: "The whole process has helped the students appreciate the worldwide trade links we have from the port and, in particular, with Sweden."
North East Lincolnshire Council and the Humber Education Business Partnership were also involved.
